On Wednesday Syd will turn 15!!! It’s a crazy time for me because I am watching my daughter grow from a baby, to a kid, to a tween and now a young adult. Her clothing styles have changed. She has more Jordans now than I ever had in my life. She no longer watches Spongebob, nope, it’s Torchwood and Dr. Who. OH let’s not forget Jeopardy. I used to be the king of answers. Now, Syd sits on the sofa and spouts answers faster than me. Her choices in food have changed. She only wanted noodles and rice. Now she wants filet mignon. Mannnn, the only filet I had at her age ended in O-fish.
Her choices in music…..WHOAH BOY have those changed!!! She used to be into Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus. Now???? I hear the Migos “Bad And Boujee” blowing out of her headphones. THE DIRTY VERSION!!! I have the extra clean version in the truck and was playing it one day. She says, “Hey!?!? Where are the lyrics?” Can you imagine the conversation I had with a 15 year old explaining that I have two versions, one kid friendly and one for the adults and she says, “I know all of the lyrics Dad.” Yeah you may know the lyrics but that doesn’t mean I have to contribute to the delinquency of a minor!!!
The trippiest part for me though is this weekend we are going to get her drivers permit. She is going to be a licensed driver. 15 years ago she was in the backseat of the Lincoln strapped in a baby seat bawling her eyes out with mitts on her hands to keep her from scratching herself. Now she is going to be in the front seat of the Caddy learning how to drive. Ya’ll marinate on that for a moment. Wait, let ME marinate on that.
Baby girl I continue to marvel in your growth, maturity and how you’ve developed your ideologies and thought processes. It is an honor to be your dad and I look forward to SOOO many more decades of being here for you.
